Who hasn’t dreamed of getting married in the Big Apple?
There’s Saks Fifth Avenue, Tiffany’s and Central Park – but if you’re after something a bit different, here are some of our tips for lovely venues, photo locations, dresses, flowers and more.
The Central Park Conservatory Garden is a hidden sanctuary located at the northern end. You’ll need a permit (form available online), but it’s worth it for the stunning floral beds, the whimsical statuary, the tree-arched walkways, the beautiful fountains – everything you’ll need for the perfect wedding shot.
Tip: go in Spring for lavish cherry tree blossoms.
If you’re after a more hip and edgy look, Williamsburg is a section of Brooklyn with stunning water views and lots of urban graffiti.
For the best rooftop view of New York City, Top of the Rock wins hands down.
Lovely Bride boutique is enchanting, with a bohemian vintage feel to it. Your own personal stylist and old-fashioned service will help you to get the look you’re after. You can choose from their range of fabulous designers including Temperley Bridal, Rue de Seine, and Rosa Clara Soft.
The White Gown has a lovely collection and takes online bookings; there are only 2 brides at a time so you can be assured of personal service.
Paisley Bridal carry a range of popular designers’ beautiful gowns at reasonable prices. They can also recommend makeup artists and hairstylists – just the thing if you’re booking from overseas.
Whether you’re after somewhere to get married, or a reception venue, here are some of our picks:
Liberty Warehouse, for outstanding views of Lady Liberty and the harbour, lofty ceilings and open fireplaces, outdoor and upstairs spaces. This unique venue is best for those with a larger guest list. It has space for up to 400 people and a varied and fashionable food menu including different food stations (try Asian, Mediterranean, or Meat and Cheese), hors d'oeuvres and chef’s tasting menus to choose from.
Tribeca rooftop is one of the most romantic venues in New York, with spectacular views of the city, beautiful crystal chandeliers and a small open air rooftop space overlooking Manhattan on the second floor. The service and food are incredibly good, with plenty of menu choices such as freshly made sushi, and delicious desserts.
Lands End, Long Island, has beautiful views of the Great South Bay. Facilities include a large dance floor, a comfortable bridal suite, a private cocktail lounge, several mahogany bars and large canopied outdoor decks overlooking the water. It can accommodate up to 150 guests for a destination wedding.
Tip: most of these venues and the locations above will require a 3-6 month booking period, so if this isn’t in your plans, a lovely alternative is to book a stylish restaurant for your reception, or have it at your hotel.
Alternatively you can follow in Carrie Bradshaw’s footsteps and get married at historic City Hall. You’ll need a witness (you should be able to find a volunteer at City Hall, or bring a friend), and time to wait (especially if you go there on a Friday when queues can be long).
